Hello, I was given a hard drive from a friend who I had done some work for. Well, he is on vacation for a couple weeks so I cannot ask him. The hard drive he gave me has Linux installed on it. Is there anyway to uninstall it or install a Windows OS over it? I have a PC I am building that is only waiting for a HD and I need that one.

Thanks in advance.

if your startup disk has cdrom support boot with cdrom support ( i suggest windows 98 startup disk for this reason or a newer version (me))

change to the drive your cdrom is on

well pretend its your d drive

at the a prompt type d:\ and hit enter

if you have windows 98 or me simply type setup now and your good to go if a newer different version go to the appropriate forum when your ready and ask there for a walk through if your uncertain

Grrr, well I tried that hoping it would work but it will not boot from the A drive. Okay step by step this is what I am doing. I am putting the bootup disk, I have a Windows ME disk. The computer starts and goes through the memory check and everything. Then it comes to the boot process, the light on my floppy drive comes on and it just goes right ahead and starts loading Linux. It goes all the way to the localhost login screen.

I do have a second hard drive installed and it is my primary slave. It is a very small drive but I installed it the other day hoping I could use it with the drive Linux was installed on. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.
