Comment: i have a home made pc that has 2 hdd the first one is 200gb and contains my winxp operating system and is about half full with data the second hard drive is 400gb and has most of it free my plan was to partition the second drive so i could dual boot from either linux or windowsxp but when i go to the partition menu and select what i want to partition when i hit "ok" it comes up with an error and it doesnt work. i was hoping somebody could tell me what im doing wrong, or if there is a different way to do it without touching any of my existing software/ data etc. thanks for the help!!! john im a total noob at linux but i want to learn!!

Reply: (edit)I basically did the same thing with my computer only I have two 80GB HDD. The space on the second drive that you want to install Ubuntu has to actually be Free Space. I ran into a problem when I tried to install Ubuntu when the space was formatted and it said "Healthy" or something to that affect. I had to delete the partition so that it said either Free Space or Unallocated Space. I choose to manually partitioned my drive for /, swap & /home. I set / for 19GB, swap for 2048MB and /home for 19GB. Ubuntu installed without a hitch.
