I'd say don't.

There are other ways to use linux that may not mess up your system.

Ubuntu (newer versions) is a live cd. You simply boot to the cd and it runs linux. There are other live cd's too. Many of them are quite good.

Second would be a soft install such can the BETA wubi. Wubi may be a way to try out ubuntu without partitions.

Thirdly would be a virtual machine. Choices are virtualbox, virtual pc, vmplayer, qemu and other. They run linux as if it were a Windows application. You boot to windows and run an application that is a software computer.

Lastly would be a dual boot install. I'd make a complete ntbackup with system state before you started to protect your xp data.
Ubuntu is about as clear as it can be on the install.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

There are several programs that can be used. I like DVD Decrypter because it automatically associates itself with ISO files. After you install it, just click on the ISO & DVD Decrypter will popup...

Installed it on a comp. with
WIN Xp just following the instructions.
The inst.process has done all the works.
It gives me now, by every start, automatic the choise Linux or Xp, everything are working fine, it found all my setting for e-mail, my grafic card, all settings in firefox a.s.o
I must say, I am impressed
