I'm just messing around with Ubuntu on an old PC & very impressed with its ease of installation & use, but can't get the hang of driver installation.
Ubuntu initially installed & set up the generic graphics at 800x600. Going to the display settings it says there's an nVidia driver available for download (it's an old MX400 card) so I let it do its stuff, but after installation, it says the driver & package are working but the graphics are stuck at 480x640 & there's no option to change it. Removing the package restores the generic driver to 800x600 but it would be nice to get the correct drivers installed. Any suggestions please?"I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..."

Thanks for reply - I think that's what I was using - it's the one that's listed in the package manager anyway, or is there one that needs to be downloaded/installed independantly of the manager?

I run Mint on my Linux box & have an even older 32MB GeForce 2 MX (without the 200 or 400). Try using ENVY:

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a go.
