Hi, I've been trying to install ubuntu 8.10 on my HP 2133 (mininote), however it freezes everytime (right after the first boot). This happens with both Ubuntu and Kubuntu. Any ideas on what i can do?

Try to boot to safe modes.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

youve successfully installed? or is that your issue? If you are having trouble installing, burn at a 2x speed.
if that is not your issue ima guess its a graphics issue and boot in safe graphics mode.

Could it be a problem with the VIA CPU?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem!! the 2133 has no cd rom though..
i install ubuntu with wubi, it downloads and installs and it restarts the notebook. i ve made an error the first time i tried to install it: i rebootet and directly entered ubuntu. someone told me, that you HAVE to reboot and enter vista again. otherwise its not working. since i didnt do that and it freezed i uninstalled and installed again. but for some reason it freezes everytime it loads ubuntu while it says "checking installation"...
so i am not shure if its because vista is blocking the admin rights as soon you log in with the installed ubuntu system, or its because i f---ed it up by rebooting in vista.
