Comment: Hi all and thanks in advance, I'm trying to install Ubuntu 7.04 on my HP and keep hitting a wall. The cd downloaded and recorded properly without error. Upon booting from cd I do get the Ubuntu install menu, and after I make my selection I see a 'loading linux kernel' message. After that though, it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper lefthand corner and two lines of text across the bottom which read in part: INT 14: CR2 df800000... STACK: c00f8050... It just hangs there until I shutdown and reboot. Any ideas? Dig

Reply: (edit)Was the CD burned at the lowest possible speed setting? That often helps. If that does not work, the easiest way is to try another distro. I'd try Sidux on it.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the response! I was able to get Ubuntu to install by using the command-line parameter acpi=off at the install menu. I also turned off Plug and Play OS in the system BIOS and used the alternate text-based install cd. It may be one or all of those that did the trick, but I'm pretty sure the acpi was the snag. Everything installed perfectly and as far as I can tell all of my hardware was detected properly. I had sound, video, all my drives and peripherals, and even my DSL worked immediately after install. It could not have gone more smoothly. Woo hoo! I'm a Linux man. Now if I can just figure out how the heck to use it :) Dig
