Hi all. I've just added a second NIC to my Linux server. The 1st I want to do all the communications with the network, the 2nd I want just to use for rsync between this and an identical machine. How do I tell the machine which card to use for each of these tasks - sorry but it's confused me entirely and I'm still new to Linux.

TIA

Mike

There might be other ways, but the most logical way I can think of is to connect the two dedicated rsync NICs with a crossover cable and give them static addresses on a different subnet than the rest of your network. Use the other machine's crossover address when you rsync and you're sure to get the right NIC.
