I try do install Suse Linux 7.0 on my natcomp
laptop with a Trident CyberBlade Ai AGP (88).
It works fine, but I can't start the X-Server

For a detailed help I would be very grateful,
because I am a novice in Linux.

Just thought I'd let you know I am having similiar problems. I am using a Compaq Presario 1600XL-145 which has the CyberBlade i1 AGP chipset. I had it working under Redhat 6.2 with XFree86 4.0, but just upgrade to RH 7.0 with XFree86 4.0.1. Now I can't get it to work.

If you figure out any tricks or get any replies, would you let me know and I will promise to do the same.

So how about it? Anybody got any clues?

Jon

This worked for me.

Think I ran into the same problem as I got myself the same notebook. Got it done using Sax2 (for a description of Sax2 see http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/de/html/wessels_sax_basic_configuration.html ).
Just start it,
select 'change configuration',
select 'autodetection'
pass the mouse and keyboard settings.
In the graphics device setup choose 'properties', select Trident as the vendor and TGUI9430 as the card type (I figured the type out using the description given in the suse help file named above, you may want to do it to make sure you've got the same card). Finally choose the properties of the desktop setup. 15 bit color depth, 1024x768 resolution, XGA 1024x768 LCD Monitor and Static Color (in the expert menu) are working fine for me, I haven't fiddled around with other settings yet.

Cheers

Holger

This makes the second laptop I have purchased from compaq, the first was a 1250 with the neomagic chipset. I was able to load RH 6.2 with no problems as long as I used 2 meg of ram instead of the 4 used by the video. However, the new 12XL400 i have came with the Trident Cyberblade, tried each configuration I could think of, cannot get X to work except the Right third half of the screen. If anyone knows of a fix, workaround or something else, please email me...

ONE SOLUTION
_____________

Para configurar o entorno gráfico de Linux Red Hat 7.1
num Compaq Presario 1200, com uma tarjeta de vídeo Trident Cyberblade i1 AGP

Primeiro:
· Editar o ficheiro /etc/lilo.conf
· Depois da linha "image=..." inserir a seguinte linha:
vga=788
(Corresponde-se a 800*600, 16 bits.)
(É possível que funcione também com 24 bits. Entom a linha seria: vga=789)
· Executar:
lilo -v -v

Segundo:
· Executar "Xconfigurator" e indicar a seguinte informaçom:
· Tarjeta Trident Cyberblade (generic)
· Personalizada (custom)
· SuperVGA 800*600 @ 56Hz
· Provar (test)
· Escolher
· Sinalar 800*600 na coluna de 16 e 24 bits
· Nom provar (skip test)

Terceiro:
· Reiniciar o computador
· Executar "startx"

Algumha dúvida? Algum problema? A mim funcionou-me.
