i've currently win95 running on my system but i've one more disk with linux installed on it which is not configured according to my system. i want to format that disk and install windows again on it. how can i do this.

Wait.. lemmie get this straight. You have two hard drives, one with Windows and one with Linux, and you want to format the one with Linux and put another copy of windows on it? If so, boot up under windows, use the format utility to format the linux drive, then pop in your Windows CD and set up windows. Tom

I had to use Western Digital Life Gaurd Utility (free from their web site) & use either Auto install or write zeros to the drive. My Win 95 Recovery disk would not see the hard drive. I did get partition Magic & have both O/S on my HD. You don't need Boot Magic really Install Win 95 Then Linux (make a boot disk for Linux) . After that start your PC with win 95 recovery disk & type fdisk/mbr That will fix win And use your Linux Boot until you get good with Linux and then get rid of win. Well That is my plan. ---Tom M

Actually, all you need to do is run FDISK and delete the non-dos partition, re-partition, format, then you're good to go.

If you want to recover the stolen hdd space the dos/win version of FDISK will not recognize the Linux partitions because of the different filesystem used by Linux. The easiest way of deleting the Linux partition is to use a linux version of FDISK usually located on the distribution cd or if your distribution doesn't come with one there is a piece of software you can download that runs in DOS which can delete Linux partitions. This little piece of joy is called "Ranish" and can be downloaded at: http://www.users.intercom.com/~ranish/part/ *This utility runs in real dos mode so you will have to run it after booting your computer up from a win98/win95 boot disk.
