I just got this e-mail from Red Hat:
Dear Red Hat Linux user,
We are approaching the published end of life date for errata support
for our final Red Hat Linux distribution. We'd like to remind you of
this date and the options available to you for migrating your Red Hat
Linux implementations: Red Hat Enterprise Linux and the Fedora Project.Red Hat Linux 9 distribution will reach its end-of-life for errata
maintenance on April 30, 2004. This means that as of May 1, 2004
we will not be producing new security, bugfix, or enhancement updates
for this product. There are a variety of options available for migration. Red Hat
offers Red Hat Enterprise Linux as well as the new Fedora Project.
Our Red Hat Linux Migration Resource Center can help you find the Red
Hat solution best suited for your needs:http://www.redhat.com/solutions/migration/rhl/
The errata support policy, as well as our current errata and
advisories, are available from:http://www.redhat.com/apps/support/errata/

That is very old news. I got that letter last summer.
Progeny offers updates for RH 7x 8 and 9 for 5$ a month.
I have gone to fedora on ny RH box and I use Slackware 9.1 on my other box
Updates for fedora are free as well as the updates for Slackware.
Good Luck
Ron

I know it's old, I just wanted to make sure that people that were new to GNU/Linux, and wanted Red Hat knew what they were doing.

Yes it is a blow for me as I am new to Linux and bought redhat 9 pro out of the box to contribute.
Now where and how much to buy Fedora can anyone let me know?.
Thanking you in anticipation.
regards,
duncan

Hi Duncan,
Fedora is free. You can download it if you have the bandwidth. If not it comes with the books like Fedora for dummies. You can also order it from places like Discount Linux Cds they also have the update Cds as well for folks like me that cant get broadband. Fedora is just like RedHat.
Good Luck
Ron

Ron thanks for that I will eventually have a look at Fedora but am having a great time learning Redhat by the day and I have to say that I am really impressed and gobsmacked at the way Linux works and has my laptop singin and dancin something MS Suck could not do with XP.
After a few weeks of really reading a lot and superb help from you guys I am nearly doing all that I did with XP and as soon as I suss out a few more bits I can finally say goodbye to MS for good.
Linux is Awesome.
regards,
duncan
