Hi,
Every one in the net,
I am new user for debian OS and I want to use the GUI mode othere than text mode . When i logon in text mode (in something called BASH) i can't get the desktop or anything to run (i am completely new to linux).
How can i either get into my normal desktop environment via the text logon, or change the logon type to GUI based so i can just get the to the desktop as soon as i login?
Thank you

In redhat we give command "startx" at the prompt, it will start the GUI, hope this will work for debian also

Try reconfiguring your X server by running "xorgconfig" as root. Once you can get startx to work you can change your logon from text to gui by editing /etc/inittab and changing:
id:3:initdefault:
to
id:5:initdefault:

I had the same problem, so I downloaded a different release of Ubuntu and it worked...
Also, don't forget that if you have a dual-head graphics card, your monitor should be plugged into the 'primary' head or x will have a fit.
Try the AMD release if you have an AMD etc..
