I'm currently testing out Linux to see how well it would work in my company's environment. We have an AIX UNIX box for our main software and we use NetTerm with IBM 3151 emulation in Windows. I can get Linux to use VT100 emulation which sort of works but the emu tends to skip key input lines in the software we use. Is there a plug-in or terminal program for Linux that can handle IBM 3151 terminal emulation?

Have you tried other emulators under Linux? I believe IBM 3151 terminal emulator is like a diskless workstation!!!

in the windows world we use procomm plus for ADDS Viewpoint term emulation. It has the ibm and 100's of other term emulations, but don't know if there is a linux like version.
you may be able to run procomm using wine, kind of weird thou, running an emulator under an emulator to access a unix box from a linux box using a windows gui.
seems a bit over the top, should be a better way.

3Dave: um, nope. I'm pretty new at the Linux thing. I can do a lot of stuff in the GUI and do MAKE style installs, but I haven't quite gotten into changing config files yet.
taurus: I tried what came with my distro. I'll have to comb some other sites to see if they have anything with the 3151 emulation built in.
Thanks for the responses!

One of the best things I like about linux is the fact that 99.9% of config files are in plain text, so just get used to an editor (I use emacs myself) and you will end up learning more about how things work and be able to make changes without relying on a GUI. Most of the config files are pretty well documented to explain what each setting does. There is often a man page relating to config files, eg "man smb.conf".

...oh, and another useful tool is "apropos" which gives you a list of things related to a subject, eg "apropos network" will list everything your system knows about networking (eg for networking one of the results will be ifconfig), you can then "man ifconfig" for more details.

Ericom has a Linux based terminal emulator.
It also runs Mandrake 9.1.
