I've downloaded the newest version of Mozilla Firefox for Linux. I have successfully extracted the contents of the tar.gz file to a directory on my computer. Now my question is, how do I run the program? there are a lot of files that were extracted, but I don't know how to install or run it - I'm used to seeing setup.exe in the Windows world. What is the equivalent file in Linux????
Thanks!

Have you got it in your Home Folder? Extract it to a folder. Go into the folder. Click on the Shell Script that says Firefox underneath. It should start.

I have unzipped it to my /home folder.
I go into the folder, there are 2 files that say firefox (well, one says firefox-bin). I double click on both of them, and nothing seems to happen. I right click on them, and select Open, and still nothing.I checked the permissions on both files, and they are executable by user, group, and world.
Do you think that the new verison of Mozilla (1.5.0.4) may not run on Red Hat Linux 7.2?

It probably won't run on such an old version of RedHat.

And honestly, you should think about upgrading your linux installation, since security support for redhat 9 stoppped years ago, i shudder to think of how long you've been running an unpatched kernel.

may i suggest ubuntu, or if you really like RH try Fedora. both are solid distributions with much improved package handling. you will not have to deal with these troubles on a newer version of linux. but mainly, you should switch for security reasons, before your box gets owned by some script kiddie, and used to send spam or whatnot.

try this way:
gunzip <filename.tar.gz>
tar xvf <filename.tar>
./configure
make
make install
