Is there a tool in linux to calculate the system temperature?

Most newer systems support thermal
monitoring. You can install the lm_sensors
package to provide the hardware level
software.

In KDE, I use the ksensors applet to
display the CPU temperature in my system
tray. ksensors is a GUI front end for
lm_sensors, and requires it to be
installed.

Other desktops probably provide their own
front end to lm_sensors, but lm_sensors is
the package that reads the sensor chip
output.
