I dual boot windows XP and Fedora Core 4 each has its own hdd using grub. today my windows crashed when i rebooted i got the blue screen of death. now when i try to boot windows it stops after 'rootnoverify(hd0.0) chainloader +1' and when i try to boot linux i get 'Uncompressing Linux... crc error --System halted' can anyone help me understand why linux will not boot after windows crashed and any way i can fix the problem WITHOUT reformatting.

For windows you could copy Ntdetect.com ntldr and boot.ini from your friend windows box to a diskette. Or you could hold F11 during startup of the machine. Bios will pop up a window where you can choose Boot device!
