Hi,
I just installed SUSE Linux 9.2 on a comp and it comes to the user name and password. Is there a default user's name and password that should be used? It never gave me a prompt to create a user's name or password.
Thank you,
Tony

Hi Tony,
as far as I am aware this is where you type in "root", as that will be the first login required by any new Linux system, then you will be asked to enter your desired password, which you will be asked for twice in order to verify that you have typed it and remembered it correctly. I have installed Suse 9.1 and root is my only login. I hope this is of help to you.Tommy.

Hi,
Thanks, I reinstalled and then was prompted
for username and password. I'm not sure why
I wasn't prompted on the first install. I'm
extremely green to Linux, however, I'm tired
of Microshaft's greedy ways.
Upon first impressions, I love the way
hardware is automatically detected without
having to find drivers for equipment that is
no longer serviced by the original company
that put their name on it.
One thing though, I don't particularly care
for is SUSE 9.2 seems extremely bloated.

"...I have installed Suse 9.1 and root is

You really should create a normal user
account and only use root when you really
need to. You can use either sudo (my
preferred method) for running root commands
or su to switch user to root.
"...SUSE 9.2 seems extremely
bloated..."
You should be able to turn off most of the
services that you probably don't need (eg
sendmail), that should speed things up a
little.
