If i were to install a suse linux os 6.1 that i got from the library would i be able to update it all the way to 8.0 from the website?

if you have the cds for all the releases after 6.1, but its not recommended coz then you trust the installer to remove all old things and replace them with new one, and the SuSE installer is noway perfect... You end up with a bloated system.

Its better to install the latest. And its even better to install redhat 9 instead of SuSE.
