SUSE KDE/GUI not starting

Hi, I have just installed SUSE 10.0 but on reboot KDE does not start - the LED on the monitor (Acer AL1711) flashes yellow/green constantly. Maybe the installation has not detected the monitor's capabilities properly. startx produces the same problem. How can I alter these from the command prompt in "failsafe" ?

If your monitor goes blank and stays that way then you are probably right in saying that X is being displayed but just at a resolution/refresh your monitor can't handle. Try reconfiguring it with either sax (or is it sax2 these days in suse?) or with xorgconfig/xfree86config.
Posting up/reading through your /etc/X11/[xorg.conf|XF86Config] file may help too....

Thanks 3Dave,
sax2 resulted in the same winking LED so I rebooted and tried xorgconfig - that seemed to be what I needed and I now have a GUI :-) Um, lost the mouse though - but now that I know what to run I _should_ be able to fix it :-) I can compare with my original xorg.conf to learn more now.
