Hi,
though SuSE doesn't provide iso images for x86, isn't it legal for somone else to make them? To buy the cd and then make iso images and post on the net?
I don't want to use SuSE but I'm just curious...
Doesn't the GPL state that the software under GPL is freely re-distributable?
And is the program YAST under GPL?
Just curious because I think SuSE developed it on its own...Some people may disagree, but I think SuSE is becoming more and more kinda Microsoft Type...
They have no open beta testing like nearly all other popular distros have, the development is only done by the SuSE people themselves, and there is no free iso download etc...So is there any place where one can find SuSE iso image downloads?

Did you try thier home page? I just looked and you can download it there. There are a few packages missing due to licinsing. Probably like RedHat leaving out MP3 support on 8.0
The address is www.suse.com

No, you can't download it at suse.com. You can only download an iso for the live-eval-version of suse.
You refer to the ftp-install. that are just all the packages in a directorytree, but I don't think you can burn that to a cd...

I'm not talking about the live eval or the ftp install...The Live eval reminds me of the microsoft days...
But according to the terms of GPL, we all are allowed to purchase a SuSE pack of 7 cds and them convert the cds into ISO and then post it on the net...
Hasn't anyone already done that?

I'm assuming people dont do it out of respect for Suse. They are a for-profit company that is very involved in the creation/advancment/ and maintence of Linux. Suse is a good distro, and you can often times find someone selling it only for $10 or less, which is worth the price IMO.
