Comment:

SuSe 7.3 is not available in iso.
if you go to their ftp site, they have 2.3 gigs of the 7.3 release in a mess of folders and files. is there a place i can download an iso? or just the 1st cd (the install cd)? it's to much trouble to download thousands of files, and then organize them in there proper folders.

please help!

thanks

Yea I got the same prob. And when I install liveeval-7.3.iso (which isn't even the full version for some stupid reason). It just goes blank after the install completes and does nothing. They gotta sort out this mess!

suse doesn't offer ISOs for their recent
distributions. they have a proprietary
installer / configurator called YAST, which
they have decided should not be freely distributed. they do offer all of the packages of the install on their FTP site, but without the
installer, you'll have one hell of a time
getting all the pieces of the puzzle
together. i suggest either buying the
distro or going with a distro that supports
ISOs, like debian.

cheers

Dear SuSE Customer,

We already did it - the result is available in retail stores and on shop.suse.com. "free beer" is different from "freedom" - we also have lifes and need money to pay for our rents. The "free" in the GPL is for "freedom", says Richard Stallman, GNU founder... and our code contributions for the var. Linux packages like kernel, glibc and the others are indeed "free".

Best Regards,

your SuSE Linux-Team!

Hi all,

when Suse as already said depends on the money it gets from seeling their product in a store for a price of nearly a MS OS its ok.
BUT I strictly disagree to offer the user with that can use the ftp install a free system but forcing the normal Dial up internet user no possibility to get a free copy. another thing is that sparc and other version are free. Hey Suse be fair and let everybody pay. NOT only the poor guys like me who are unfortunately not able to use your ftp install because they have like nearly everybody a dial up network.
It would only take 1 day for a programmer to include a routine in the suse installer that help to build up a internet conection so that realy everybody can use your silly ftp nfs installtion.
I will use another linux distribution with isos for download.

NO iso..and it sucks having to download all the files, but it is the only way to go if you don't want to pay for it. I downloaded the files (5.8 gigs) and got it to work. There is a file called images...it it is a file called bootload. Use rawrite to save it to a floppy. Boot from the floppy and a screen will come up with the german info and english info. just tab to the english info and press enter. It will then ask how you want to install 7.3 (from disk, ftp, hard drive) select hard drive. when it ask you for the location just type in the location (ie e:\suse 7.3) of course yours may be different debending on where you downloaded all that crap too. Once it finds where you stored the info, install will start right up with a graphic install. it is self explanitory from this point. it is a good idea to keep the file layout just as it is in the currrent folded at ftp.suse.com....hope this helps....there is another place on the web that tells you in more detail how to install from the harddrive but i can't remember where i saw it...thats where i learned about it.

F**k SuSE, it's all about money these days.
If they don't want to make the isos available
then f**k them, use some other distro, Ihope
they go bankrupt.

P.S SuSE is not that great I used once and it
blows goat ... There are many other great
distros like Debian or Mandrake, well not
Mandrake but Debian

Angry linux user
