I have tried to install Redhat Linux 7.2, onto my Compaq Presario 2800 laptop. During the installation, I got no problem with the screen, but after the installation, from the graphical login screen and onwards, the screen got screwed up. There are vertical
bars cutting up the icons, fronts, and dialog boxes. I have browse thru several newsgroup, but of no help. Can anyone please help?.

Hi Sathish,
I don't know a lot about Linux but I've had similar problems when installing 7.2, 7.3 and 8.0. I'm assuming that you used the graphical install. If so, then when you rebooted and went to run startx your problems started right?
I would suggest that you try to find out what the display and video adapter specs are then manually run the xf86config again. If selecting the correct settings within that program doesn't fix the problem, then change the settings a little each time until you succeed. I find that my monitors/video adapters can't handle the settings that the manufacturer's say are correct sometimes.

Yes Skeesm is right. You had to choose right moniter and display card manually. Because many times the settings told by machine aren't right. I had the same problem and I corrected it by selecting my display card manually.

try to start off from a low resulotion setting to a high, eg. 640X480 and move up to 1024x768
I'm install linux on many laptops, and yes choosing the correct screen is very helpful.
