When Version 6.0 of StartOffice came out, Sun
decided to charge $75 for it (but free if you
are from educational or non-profile institution).
Therefore, you can't download it for free
anymore. However, if you need it, you can get
it for cheaper than $75 from either Mandrake
or Xiam. Otherwise, use OpenOffice which is
technically StarOffice 5.2
(www.openoffice.org).

I've used SO 5.2 and 6 beta, and I currently use OO 1.0. OO seems more like SO 6 than 5.2.

This is what I found at openoffice.org:

StarDivision, the original author of the StarOffice suite of software, was founded in Germany in the mid-1980s. It was acquired by Sun Microsystems during the summer of 1999 and StarOffice 5.2 was released in June of 2000. Future versions of StarOffice software, beginning with 6.0, will be built using the OpenOffice.org source, APIs, file formats, and reference implementation.

So it looks like StarOffice isn't worth the money unless you want to support Sun.

This thread is a little old, but ....

I just D/Ld OO 1.0.1 and installed it on a RH 7.3 system.

Installs clean (read the .pdf install manual first - 2 phase install), and runs fine.

Regards, Guy
