SPARC Linux self-destroyed itself

Hello all,
today I was finally able to install ALL Debian 3.0 Linux on an own disk attached to an old SPARC 5 workstation. I was able to install X Windows and to start configuring the KDE environment. Then I shut down the computer and when I turned it on again with the command "boot debian" (because I start it with an alias, Solaris 7 is the default OS), I got the error message "Data Access Exception", the SILO loader did not load Debian Linux anymore!!!
I tried to restore a SILO file with the Debian rescue installation program and seemingly it worked, ie I was able to load the OS and to log in. When I went to look under usr/bin/ the big surprise: X11 is not there anymore! It just dissolved in the nothing ... does anybody know what may have caused this?

I don't know anything about SILO, but did you set the /usr partition? (different from the root partition?)
Linux doesn't destroy itself, and even if there might be something like that in the fileutils package, certainly not in debian stable (3.0). Its the most stable linux distro...
Are you able to run other programs? just type cd /usr and see if the /usr directory is empty...If yes then it is probably not mounted.
