Soundcard problem

OS: Slackware 8.1
CPU/Ram: Duron 1 ghz / 256 mb SDRA

I have a problem getting my soundcard to work, it's intergrated on my mainboard. MS-6330 v. 5. with an AC97 soundcard. How do i get it to work? Chipset VIA KT133A.

do this as root:
#modprobe ac97*
that will load the modules for ac97 if
slackware has the,other wise you'll have to
build a new kernel, (maximum 20 mins on
your system)
After this, you can do the following:
#chmod 666 /dev/dsp /dev/mixer
(without the # ofcourse)
This will set the permissions for sound
devices so normal users can use them (you
should not be logged in as root)
