Hi there,

I have just installed red hat 9 on a relativelly old laptop (Toshiba Satellite 1800-804).

Everything looks good during installation except the sound.
Indeed, I can't get the it to produce a sound. When I try to play a simple wav file, I got the message "Error while initializing the sound driver: device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No shuch device)

When I try to detect the sound card, it finds the model M5451 PCI AC-Link, which does not seem to match the model I found in the toshiba web site (ALi M1535 AK4543). Anyway, the following error appears:
"The Trident driver could not be loaded. This soundcard may not be compatible with red hat linux"

Ok, I'm a complete ignorant in Linux (first installation). Can you give me some help in a language I can understand? ("For dummies" style)

Thanks a lot,

Olivier
