is there an easier way to get the sound drive working on slackware my sound card is a via based chipset. In the faq of slack I have to rebuild my kernel don t know how

Unless u find a pre-built module for u're soundcard and load it into the kernel, nope.

U should probably recompile the kernel anyway. Here's some real quick documentation on how to do it.
