I have an ESS es1869 Audiodrive card installed in my computer. It works well under M$Win, but it is complete and totaly mute under linux. Once I tryed a kind of howto to make it work, but I am novice in linux and probably made a mistake! There is still no sound under linux!
Can anyone help me!!

If you're using a version of RedHat or Mandrake linux, you gain acces to sound cards by loadable modules. To configure, type 'sndconfig' logged in as root. This should detect, test, and configure your card to load at boot time. Caldera linux from version 2.3 onwards should autodetect your card during installation. I'm not sure about other distributions such as SuSe or Slackware, as they all handle audio, scsi devices etc.. differently.

Good luck

i have the same problem i am running Suse linux and tried the to load the moduals but that didn't work so i went to redhat.com and downloaded sndcnfg but when i ran it said that it detected my ess card but that there was no support for my model yet, so if anyone figures it out please e-mail me with the solution. i am going totry if i can find the drivers and use ALSA.
i will let you know if it works

use pnptools (isapnp) to configure it first, then use sound blaster drivers in the kernel.
