Hi there:
I have a dual bootable system with WinXP and Red Hat Linux 8.0 (kernel: 2.4.18-14).
The internal modem I have is "US robotics 56K fax host Int"
The modem is connected to COM4 on WinXP and work fine there.
I tried to configure dial up connection on Linux, using KPPP.
I configured KPPP 'Device' to ttyS3 (COM4 in WinXP)
But at query modem option I am constantly getting message 'Sorry, Modem is busy'
o/p of few of the Linux commands r as follows:
Command: setserial -g /dev/ttyS3
/dev/ttyS3, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02e8, IRQ: 3Command: dmesg | grep ttyS
ttyS0 at 0x03f8 (irq = 4) is a 16555A
ttyS1 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16555A
(it does not showing anything abt ttyS3)Command: ls -la /dev/modem
crw-r----- 2root uucp 4, 67 Aug 30 17.31 /dev/modemThe control panel->modem->tab tells that its location is 'PCI slot 5'
I tried to
1. Remove 'lock' option from 'etc/ppp/options'
2. Deselect 'lock' checkbox of KPPP
As suggested by someone in google groups but it didn't work.Does all this means that its a Win Modem & will not work with RHL?
as last try I shut down the machine, removed modem from the slot, and rebooted machine in RHL mode. Then at 'checking new hardware' step, a Kudzu opened a window, saying that 'modem is removed from machine, do u want to keep config or remove it' .. I selected remove option. Then again I restarted machine after attaching modem to the slot. & Again 'kudzu pop up' saying 'new hardware is detected & do u want to configure it'.. I selected yes.. & it did something automatically. since the rest of the boot up messages started coming after that.
But still after this its giving the above o/p only..
Can any one help me with this?
Regards, Amit

Hi
I had the same problem as you have. Actually my modem is not installed, I download its driver from
www.linmodems.org
and install it. It works fine.
You may have the same problem. If you have, download your driver and install it............
