So i got Red Hat Linux 7.3 Now what?? So what is the cool thing you can do that i couldnt do in Windows XP? Anybody know anything cool that could be done. By the way when i want to play a grafical game its all slow and stuff. i have a TNT2 32mb Card. Shouldnt do this im guessing. Any advice and ideas all welcome!
Thanks

Man!! we don't use Linux to play game.We enjoy the stability, power and flexebility of it..You can Login as any number of users at the same time, communicate with any operating system easily. Have a full server under your hands. fast file system. programming and compiling without problem and etc!!
come on...You must learn how to use it. believe me you' will love it.
I don know what XP is but i heard it's another Windows...
I'm not a fan of GUI so everything i do is in text mode.
##Welcome to the paradise of Linux.

so what can i do on it really? because i know its stable and all but stable for what? I can run a server on XP and its darn stable!!! Well anyways.. Do i need to know somekind of language to use linux in test mode? Because i got KDE 3 GUI.

man what is your prob? if youre interested in linux play aroud with it and youll find out about its advantages yourself. install the nvidia drivers first so u can play in opengl mode (i play quake under linux (gf4) with 450 fps if i unset com_maxfps) so dont tell me you cant get an nvidia card to bring good results under linux.
dont be so lazy and expect people to explain you what you should do with it.linux can do lots more than any windows (though in some fields it lacks programs yet [esp. multimedia]). especially in networking linux is far ahead.
learn it by using it.

hey chill out i just got it yesterday and needed a head start. Anyway i have another question. When i just installed linux it asked me what kinda way i like the GUI interface id like it to be. Because i used windows before and i selected the windows interface. But i remember seing UNIX and MAC as the other options. ( i think there were more) And i also picked KDE 3 and i would like to see how Gnome is. So anybody know how i could change those options that i selected before?
Any help appriciated.

to have better gameplay ;what do you install in xp >nvidiadrivers Yes??
to have better gameplay ;what do you install in redhat >nvidiadrivers Yes
and xp is microsoft thats why i use reshat ,before you know it bill sits in my livingroom ;-)

if you want gnome( and you installed it) at the login you can change
and in kde use the configurationscreen

I got Caldera OpenLinux 5 days ago. The first 2 days I thought it was s**t, but now I wish I could stay home all day with it. Lots to learn, but I think it'll be worth it.

I just wish people would do a little reading
or research first before they start sending
out this type of message, "What can Linux do
for me?" There are a bunch of articles or
websites that explain what Linux is and what
it can do for you (and to you, too). Just
spend a little time searching around and
don't be so lazy, sitting on your butt and
say, "So I have downloaded Linux, no what?"Lawrence

indeed Lawrence, it's free so they wonna have it. :-)
But some will stick to it like maybe Frank

So you got linux. Play around with it. Plenty of web sites just for newbie linux users. I use a linux machine as a router/firewall for my home network. One dsl internet connection into the house with multi computers using the web. I'm currently building a machine just for Redhat 7.3. I already downloaded and created the disc's. I want a mail server and maybe host my own website. RH 7.3 should help me set this up. I don't know how to do it yet, but you can bet I'll read all I can find and explore the web should I run into any problems. If I still can't fix a problem that comes up, I can alway post the problem here. By giving as must details as I can, it will help those who help us. Don't give up on linux. You too will enjoy what linux has to offer. Best of luck to you.

hey, can you guys me some links to get a linux server. I looked around and couldnt find it. Please Help

Buddy never underestimate the cute little TUX on ur desktop...There are certain fields which Bill hasen't touched .....
Imagine a day when Piracy Ends..
And u r out from home near a computer shop , trying tto get one last editon of the software u have dreamt of ....
The siituation would be like purchasing a Bottle of water for $100 ......
This would be a time when ur opinion would channge abt linux

When you installed Linux you should have had the option to install as a server or desktop. Not quit sure on the terms they used. Anyway, just go to www.redhat.com and there you will find out how to install as a server along with a lot of information. Also, I beleive the CD's you created have the documention on them. A little reading and a little research is all you need. Remember back when you first started using Windows? Did you know all the functions (or lack there of)? Do you know anything about DOS? We just have to unlearn windows and start doing things right by using linux. I'm not a point and click dude. I want to get inside and down & dirty. I going to install and learn how to make computing fun and easy with no crashes.
I'm switching to the TUX, shouldn't everyone?

the question should not be what can I do with linux it should be what I can not do with it. Linux can do everything Windows can do. It a desktop -openoffice equals to microsoft office, it has many broswer to surf the net, it has email client that are similar to outlook, It can be a sever file sharing, print sharing, firewall, router, and most of this is free I think that pretty cool. If only a couple thing it fails on which are: games, groupware, and directory services. However, they keep add more every day and geting better ever. Who knows by the time. who knows by the time this posted there might already come out on a better games(I heard sony make there playstation on linux.) IBM is working hard on geting groupware on linux Notes work ok but still needs more delevopement. Finally and this where I see nothing other then ebones coming close to resolve this problem The directory services but not even close to novell or microsoft when comes easy of use, I really hope Novell ports there NDS onto linux I be the first in line to get that distro
