i configured smb as follows,when i tried to login it through windows 98 SE it will ask passowrd when enterd windows user password it is not accepting ,which user name and password i have to enter to browse linux share in windows 98 se. pl some one help me,is it smb configuration is correct

browseable = no to yes

it is easier to configure in webmin

Yes, you might want to use something like samba-swat.

Modify your /etc/xinetd.d/swat file and change the line "disable = yes" to "disable = no". Next, reload xinetd, such as "service xinetd restart".

Next, go to your browser and enter 127.0.0.1:901 in the address bar.

From there it's much easier to modify your smb configuration, then stop/start/restart your samba (smb) daemon.

Also make sure that you have a linux user with the same name as your windoze one and that they have been added to the samba users database with:
# smbpasswd -a username
