Ok, I have a toshiba T1200 series portable computer, And it has 640k of ram, and a 20MB hd, Is there some distro of linux that would run on this machine? (X or no X.) BTW: I have heard from a friend about using minux on it.. Could this be possible? I'm just curious.

Thankyou in advance,
NobleArc.

lol, mick, it is 640 k, not 640 mb...

NobleArc, what OS did this thing come with?

The problem is, that even to use a system without X, you will atleast need 4 mb of memory... and you'll also need swap space (and your hd is already so small)

It is possible to run a very basic unix type system (can be any)
I think what you should do is install a very very very basic system of slackware (latest version) on a desktop pc, then transfer the system to this little cutie...
The reason I'm saying that is coz even the install program takes 5 mb of memory, and to make 5 mb of swap on your already small hd, it would be a 10 mb install, and it will probably take a week...

yes you can install minix, but that would be the same thing as a very basic GNU system with linux as kernel...

Take care though, your slackware system should be about 12 mb in size...

Yes I know, I just want to have a command line system, and it came with MS-DOS 3.2 (currently I'm looking for a PWR/Supply, I lost the one it came with but I know it works.)
