hi there everyone. i just got slurpie installed and was playing with it on my own system. it is v2.0b. everytime i let it run it appears to work then after it sits for a few mintues it gives the error:
error: server timed out. exiting.
it says it connects to localhost successfully, then says one node connected, then reads in the first account (root) and says it is cracking it. but a few minutes after that it times out. the command i am using is:
./slurpie -v -g aA7?x 5 9 shadow
shadow is a copy of my real shadow file but in the slurpie directory. i am not using a dictionary file (does anyone know where some extensive ones are?). but a dictionary file shouldn't make the difference. does the shadow file make the difference, does slurpie work with systems that use shadow passwords?
my next thought was if the port was being blocked...port 15001
so i start slurp which listens on port 15001 and then run slurpie that says it connects successfully, however i get no reply with a ping to that port. this sounds bad, but i type "ping localhost 15001" to ping that port right? anyways, how do i see if i have software blocking that port? does anyone have anyother ideas? thanks and take care.
