Hi, I am trying to set up my ftp server. I know it's the reverse DNS that make my FTP initial connect slow. But don't know how to fix it.
My system: Redhat 7.0 with no DNS server installed.
I ftp from my other computer in the same network, I have to wait at least 45 sec. before username prompt comes up.
If I ftp from outside, the username prompt never comes up as the connection got cut off after a long wait , couple minutes.
I know it's the reverse DNS, but how to fix it?
Can I disable it in FTP access?I know one solution is to change the /etc/hosts and add the IP address there. But I am trying to give fTP access to my friends and I don't know their IP, even I know now, they are using DHCP and their IP change all the time. So, that editing /etc/hosts is not my solution
Is there anyway to fix it?
Thanks so much
Softech

I was having the problem as well...
You may have to disable ReverseDNS and or turn off Ident lookups.I am using proftpd and entered the following into my /etc/proftpd.conf file:
UseReverseDNS off
IdentLookups offNow it is like lightening!
Hope that helps!
