Hey all,
Wonder if you could help me on this issue. Have just installed a brand spanking new copy of Slackware 8.1 onto a P2 300mhz spec'd machine and proceeded to do all the usual stuff like installing programs from source code (also looked at SlackRPM but decided to give up for the moment) but the problem I am running into, is no matter what I try to compile all I never get from doing a ./configure on the code is
checking for C compiler default output... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
So far I've tried it on NMap 3.00 as well as previous versions, TCP Wrappers as well as a few other programs and that is all I ever get.
I'm wondering whether it is something to do with GLibC because that is normally where the problem lies. Anybody else had this problem and know of a work around or anybody know how I can start to compile things again.
If I can't solve it, will have to go back to Slackware 7.0 when I can find my disks.
Cheers People
DeanBTW: Just to let you know that I am not a n00b as I have done this sort of thing properly under all other Linux distros including Slackware 7.0 but Slackware 8.0 seems to have something different

Okay then, seems that either nobody knows the answer or just plainly doesn't want to know about this thread.
I love the fact that people come to this board who really don't know what they are doing and get helped all the time but when somebody experienced comes along, they are shunned as if they should know what they are doing. Yes I am experienced with Linux but not when it is to do with the compilers on the linux platform as normally they just work.
Maybe now somebody could actually help me because this is a plight for help and as usual nobody seems to want to know. So much for these boards being set up and people using them, as no body actually cares about what happens. Just goes to show that these boards are mostly a waste of time, efford, money and bandwidth. It also proves what the online community can be like ... selfish unless there is something on offer in return.
And before you this that this message is offensive it is not. These are the views beings expressed by a frustrated person who has waited patient for an answer and received nothing (and probably not even a viewing of their thread).

Sorry cant't help you, I am starting up with Linux Slackware 8.1 in a few days. So I was one at least that read your thread =).
