When you say "doesn't seem to shutdown
completely," what exact do you mean by that?
It shutdowns to a certain step and then hangs!
What is the step, service, before the hanging
and is there any error message with it???

No error message is shown. The last step shown is "System Halted". Thats it. I will have to press the shutdown button on the CPU. Ofcourse, the next time when I start Linux, no error check is forced.

That is perfectly normal. If youre too lazy to press the power button yourself, then move back to windoze. Doesnt hurt anything, so dont worry.

hey raghu,

all you need to do is make sure apmd is
running:
ps -A | grep apmd

if not, type:
/usr/sbin/apmd

then type:
/sbin/modprobe apm

you should be set. when i switched from
Mandrake to Slackware i had the same
issue. my computer quit powering itself
down until i place the previously
mentioned commands into an
initialization script.

I never found apmd to be necessary. modprobing apm, however, is. I'm sure to modprobe apm. After that, my box shuts itself off fine.

/sbin/lsmod lists which modules are loaded.

"If youre too lazy to press the power button yourself, then move back to windoze." ?!! Whatever.

Ahem. Just a correction: I've never found apmd to be necessary for my box to shut itself off.
