Hi, I was recently thinking of buying SuSE Linux 10.1. I heard it was very secure and safe from many viruses, and can be dual-booted with Windows. I saw the SuSE Linux at a store for $60, but I was wondering if its worth $60? Does SuSE Linux come with an Internet server like Windows XP Pro does? Does SuSE Linux come with programming tools and applications built in? I was hopeing to get some feedback before I buy and install Linux.

for 60 bucks your mostly just paying for the books that come with the linux distribution.

I like my Suse linux and full multimedia support is available, ,, Adding repositories for other programs and updated programs is a snap.

I'd say go for it, !!! I've dedicated a machine of mine to the Suse linux and use it for the most part , Everything is there, Apache , Firefox , PHP , development environments and tools, FTP, Mail server whatever You desire, to turn your machine into,

Some may not be as Polished as , say Frontpage, visual studio , among others , But the tools are there,

MSI 845e mb 1 gb ram and a p4 2.4n running xp ,win 2000 advanced server and win 98 SE alot to learn and I know so little !!!!

If you would like to try before you buy, openSUSE has the open source components and is free to download.

Suse is one of the few distros I have actually bought and found it well worth the money. As quacked says it comes with some great documentation which I still refer back to every now and again even if it is for version 5.2! It also came with some badges, stickers and other goodies as well as containing more software than the downloadable versions. Even though I haven't used suse for several years now I am glad I bought it when I did.

I you want to pay for Linux, than look for Novell SUSE Linux Entprise Desktop (NLED) 10 which is based on OpenSUSE 10.1. It comes with very polished user interface and better support. It is worth for every cent you paid for it.
