SFTP Using Nautilus

I'm running the stock Fedora Core 3 with the Gnome GDE. I just discovered the "Connect to Server" feature in Nautilus and tried connecting to an SFTP server I have access to. The following path appeared in the location bar.
sftp://user@server:22/path/to/folder
It asked me for my password and then listed the directory fine and dandy. The problem is, when I open one the files in gedit, they open as read-only.
I definitely have write permission for all the files using the username I provided for the remote connection. (If I connect using the ssh command in a terminal, I have read-write access.) However, the username I use to log on my home machine is different than the remote username. Could this be what is causing the problem? Is there any way around this?
