Hi,
I have a web server runnign debian linux, it is in a remote location in my house, and would like to be abl to set up some sort of software (VNC??) or something else to be able to remotly use that computer from my MS Windows machine in my bedroom.
Is this possible?
Thanks
Darren
Thanks,

VNC could not be easier to set up, and is a simple and easy solution to your problem, not to mention that TightVNC (im not sure about others) comes with a built in web deamon, so you can access it from either the VNC client or any java enabled web browser.
I use it to access my home PC from work.
I'm sure someone else in here could comment on the security issues assiciated with VNC better then i could though.
Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939
Athlon 64 3500+ @2450
Dual -
Corsair TwinX CMX512-3200XL
Gecube X800 XT Platinum
Seagate 200 Gig
Coolermaster Wavemaster Silver

Not sure about It myself as I'm trying to do the same under fedora. 3 (updated 3.91?) Was wondering if I needed to add a specific user account and enable read, write access to user account , as a quest. Could be a firewall or SE linux configuration issue ,, So far I Haven't been able to connect from a windows machine to the Linux box ,Yet have no problem connecting to a windows machine from the linux box.. Have checked to make sure VNC server is running and looked to see if the configuration ,, (through the GUI tools ) was set-up and all seemed right , Just couldn't seem to connect to the linux box Still waiting to see someone else answer so Maybe I could get a hint ... at anything to do myself
MSI 845e mb 768 mb ram and a p4 2.4n running xp ,win 2000 advanced server and win 98 SE alot to learn and I know so little !!!!

have you tried other alternatives like SSH? since your just using that linux box as a web server. if your using it for more than just it's web server then maybe VNC is for you. since your linux box has XWindows running. you should be able to access it either via web browser or the VNC client.
btw, when you setup tight vnc it doesn't require any username on your linux box it's a stand-alone app that would ask you to type in a password that you will use when you try to access it (during SETUP)

NB When connecting to a GNU/Linux VNC server you must give the screen number as well as the IP/FQDN, eg:
192.168.0.5:1

Hi Guys, I'm having trouble getting vncserver to run. I've installed it (tightvnc-1.2.7.tgz) using the Slackware pkgtool but when I type vncserver on the command line I get a message..
/bin/vncpasswd :cannot execute binary file.
I'm quite new to linux, can anyone give me some hints please ?
