setting static ip in gentoo

I am trying to set up my machine to use a static ip, it starts eth0, sshd, ftpd, no problems, cannot ping anything and cannot be pinged, anyone have any ideas as to what i am doing wrong? Thanks

what is in you /etc/resolv.conf
it should have nameserver yourdefaultgatewayip

Hi mhershbe,
DNS is relevant when trying to ping to a hostname/Full Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), but when pinging to a IP adres also fails, it's probably a generic network issue.
