I just installed Damn Small Linux to my hard drive but when I rebooted to finish the installation it asked me to set the root password but when I typed nothing came up please forgive me if it is something stupid. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Also I think I would rather use Puppy but I could not get it to work on my old computer any advice on this would be helpful, please keep it simple I am new to Linux this is my first try at it.

I don't believe you can get past that point of the install, without typing a root pass word. Why not just give it one and, be done with it. Write it on the side of the computer, if your afaid you will forget it. It has been my experience, 64mb of ram is not enough for puppy without setting up a swap partition. are you doing that, before installing? Probably should do it for dsl to. what version of puppy are you using? the new one 4.1, also includes a version called 4.1 retro, maybe try that. Use this to setup the hard drive and, create a swap partition. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
