Seeking assistance. I just installed RedHat 8.0. Running the installation wizard, I selected the appropriate mouse settings: Generic Serial Mouse (2 button), emulate 3 button option, and designated the correct COM port that the serial mouse is on (/dev/ttys0)...unfortunately, after the installation was done and booting into o/s, the mouse only moves slightly on the screen - sometimes not at all.

I have done the following recommendations:

(1) I have also ran "redhat-config-mouse" with no success for mouse movement.
(2) I changed the mouse settings under "Preferences."
(3) Also did a "xf86config" to manually set...but no success.

As a last resort, I tried to swap mice (p/s2 with serial adapter and another serial mouse)...but no success. any suggestions? Or is there something I have overlooked or config'd wrong?

The Mouse is an old Microsoft Serial (v2.0) mouse. I also tried to switch to an IBM mouse...HELP!!!

try the various configurations that are available for mice, for example, my logitec didn't work as as a standard mouse but worked as an ms intelli mouse.

Use a graphical tool for doing this if available (maybe redhat-config-something)

or type setup as root (on a console)
and select the mouse tool or something)

Balram - thanks for the recommendations. I did the various configurations (from root console and typing setup). Unfortunately, the mouse still was not recognized and still doesn't move on my screen. I did go as far as disabling the mouse config (selected "no mouse") and then had redhat setup probe for the mouse...it said that there was no mouse to probe...

I setup manually with no success. any other suggestions?
