Sendmail - how to configure to act

Hi all,
I am running a RH7.3 install where I just got Horde's IMP up and running. I have a domain name mydomain.net that's MX record points to the machine the.realrecord.edu. If I send mail to alij@the.realrecord.edu it works like a charm. if I send it to alij@mydomain.net, I get a relaying denied error.
I learn as I go and can follow instructions well, but I do not know enough Linux/Sendmail to figure out what should be edited in Sendmail and how to edit it. I already recreated the virtualusertable so that alij@mydomain.net = alij@the.realrecord.edu
Any tips, pointers, or a nice page telling me how to do this (hopefully simple) deal would be much appreciated.

Check the Cw flag that specifies names of machines this sendmail host is willing to accept mail for. It should be configured for both. You probably have a line in the sendmail.cf file that looks like
Cwthe.realrecord.edu
see if you are using the file /etc/mail/local-host-names or /etc/mail/sendmail.cw these would be return delimited lists of acceptable mail recipient hosts names.
