Comment:

I just had a power outage today, and the scroll wheel stopped working. I have had this same problem before, also after a power outage I just cannot remember what I did to fix it.

This is my current /etc/X11/XConfig-4 data for the mouse:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

any help would be appreciated

Well.. you said you had this problem before... I can't imagine that a power failure would change your config file...

For a quick test, run a console and run this:
cat /dev/mouse

Then move the mouse around. You should see garbage spill out onto the screen as you move the mouse. Then keep the mouse still and try rolling the mouse wheel. If more garbage spills out, then you know that the mouse wheel works, and that linux sees it working.
