Samba Question.
The current configuration is Win2K Server with Netware Server used as FileServer in an Educational Setup.
- The students logon as "Student" user on Win2k domain. Common account for all. - Then they logon to thier individual accounts using Netware Client Service, and use the \\NetWareSrv\Sys\Users to save/retrieve files in thier individual users secured with permissions.
As netware is getting obsolute can the role of file server be shifted from netware to linux using samba. The same configuaration is required, single user account at windows and individual user account at linux using samba?

Yes this can be done, and probably be done better than netware could do. Its not that hard if you've used samba before, and even if you haven't it shouldn't take that long, especially if you use a script to generate the folders and logins on the linux box. If this is to be done, i would suggest to download not only samba but samba-swat, which is a webpage gui for the configuration of the daemon.
Hope this helps, if you need more specifics, just ask.
