Comment:
We have a redhat 7.2 linux machine running samba to connect win2K machines in a domain.
is it possible to get the authentification for samba side from a NIS server using the password server = option .
are there any special rules to be followed for this, is there any howto guide for this.
the unix side of the machine picks up users from the NIS server and they are able to login but the samba side wont let in.
we tried using both the encrytion and no encrytion options.
the NIS server is a solaris 8. Is there a way to find out netbios name for this solaris machine.

I think there is an option for NIS server authentication. I will recommend to install swat to configure samba and then you can click in the help for every item and see what to enter there. I've seen the "NIS Server" entry in Swat, so I think that will be it (I think you enter an IP address there). Look for samba-swat in the internet or check your distribution installation for it.
