not trying to be a smart but sometimes we miss the obvious and it takes a set of fresh eyes

dont know how many times ive needed to walk away and look back or ask for afresh set of eyes if dosnt work repost ill try something else

have you tried the lisa demon to see if its not a netowrking issue

kde control center (root or su)

under networking

lan browsing

go through the nework configuration

tell it to scan twice when prompted (better succes rates for me)

now drom to windows shares and enter info

apply changes of course

go to conosle type
lisa
hit enter
should get a congratulations mesage it working

go to konquirer
click the network tab click local

and should scan the network and find all windows boxes (tell you if its the linux box and networking side)

THIS is a webmin related answer

under webmin i have run into the problem that the defaults are for the linux box(samba settings) to try to be

1. master browser
2. set wins server here
3. edit workgroup Defaults workgroup to machine name
noted swat has similar defaults

Make sure uncheck the QoS option in the network properties/General Tab of the XP box. Hope this will help.

Hi all,

All measures as advised tried but problem still remains

This is the second test made on Samba-2.2.3a(RH7.3) and WinXP. In the 1st test Samba-2.2.3a (RH7.3) could see WinXP folder for files transfer without problem but WinXP could not see Samba server. I used a basic smb.conf file but unfortunately I have not got it saved.

Late I erased the entire Linux (RH7.3) and made a fresh installation of Linux and Samba (same RH7.3 and sam Samba-2.2.3a from RH7.3 CDs) using the same WinXP as client and also a basic smb.conf file similar to the previous one.

Now it is 2-way blocked. It looks a little funny to me.

Thanks

Stephen

Hello sastimis,

I've just read your problem, on this site: http://www.burstnet.com/cgi-bin/ads/ad9887a.cgi/6683/RETURN-CODE
I had the same problem, The problem is the password. XP send is
ecrypted to the SMB server, but the SMB server doesn't understand and
blocks acces to it.

More information on how to fix this is on this site: http://microhelp.ucsd.edu/html/regfiles.html

Good luck!
