Running slugish

CPU/Ram: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0g

I partioned my hardrive (14GB Ext2) and installed mandriva on it it seems to be running very slow is there any way of speeding up the perfomance?

Disable any services at startup that you don't need, eg postgres, sendmail etc. Also you can use hdparm to optimise your IDE drives.
