I have 8mm tape on my Linux RedHat 6.2 [Intel machine ] so i would like to detect
tape diver at run time while i have done this on SGI machine.Could any body help to
do so.

You really need to provide more information.
Is that an 8mm DAT? Is it SCSI, IDE? Who
makes the drive? If it's SCSI, you need to
make sure that you have the SCSI AHA driver
loaded if it's a module, or, properly compile
the kernel to support it. Additionally, you
may need to install a kernel module (or
recompile kernel) to support your tape drive.

In short, more info is needed.
