It's not that easy. You can run all the BSD stuff on a PC, but the whole reason you would use MAC OS X rather than BSD is Apple's proprietary code that won't run on a PC.

he's looking for a power pc emulator for the pc that he can run mac os x on. I'd do a search on google and hope. You're certainly not going to get great performance out of it but you may at least be able to see it run.

I don't think there are any PPC emulators. Even if you find one, it'll probably be for Windows and require a >=1GHz CPU. If you find a good one, I'd like to try it.

As it turns out, you can run more of OS X on x86 than I originally thought. You can even get the neat GUI. Unfortunately, it's still way too difficult to set up.

Good question, good question. I haven't been able to access simics.net yet, and that's where the other site always directs me when I click on license links or try to find a download.

Too bad I didn't check if I could actually download it before I posted that last comment. I don't know why simics.net is down. I think I'll send a "what's going on?" e-mail to license@virtutech.com.

Mac os x will not run on a pc,it doesn't even run
on power pc's,it needs a native g3/g4
computer!,as for mac emulators I installed one on
my mac(virtual pc)for fun!don't bother they
suck!,they don't run 9.2/10.1.5,the highest they go
is os 7.
Lastly os x is linux!(not completly though),for more
info on that check out the following site...

OS X is heavily based on BSD, for the record. As I stated earlier, you can't run all the user-friendly Mac stuff. If you want to get something close to OS X, use the GNU-Darwin distribution.

Simics doesn't support PPC as well as some architectures, and I'm not sure if OS X will run on it, but I've applied for a license. Now all I have to do is actually get OS X.

OS X is well worth using, even if one has to go out
and buy a mac,it runs the way an os should!.
Now that I'm using it I can't see myself running
anything else!(except for os x jaguar)when ever
apple starts shipping it????.

Macs may be expensive, but x86 pre-built systems are almost as bad. If I could build my own Mac, I probably would.

I've never used OS X, but with the stability of BSD, and as easy as any other Mac, it has to be amazing. Of course, I would have to dual-boot with Linux.

If OS X is based on Linux, shouldnt it be open source? If not, why?

The OS X Darwin kernel IS open source, so are many other components of the OS. BSD is free and OS X isn't because Apple added lots of stuff to OS X. They essentialy crossed BSD with OS 9 to make OS X.

At the very heart, the OS X kernel is based on the Mach project at Carnegie Mellon University. at
the shell, Mac OS X is BSD-based like, albeit with a few Apple twists.

Apple has been very good so far with it
OS X updates,it's pretty clear by seeing
how fast OS X is growing that it's the
open source part of OS X causing this.
