Has anyone else noticed that the PS2 is basicaly a Linux machine? alot of the files used by playstation games are very akin to linux files as well.
Does anyone know of any projects or anything related to getting ffxi to run (straight without emulation of windows) on a linux pc?

I'm not sure how you got the impression that "files used by playstation games are very akin to linux files". The PS2 and a Linux distribution running on a typical desktop computer have little in common.
The PS2 uses MIPS, a very different CPU architecture than Intel and AMD. Linux is capable of running on either architecture and many others, but that fact in no way bypasses the complete lack of compatability between MIPS and Intel or AMD CPUs.

If you've ever looked at the breakdown of a Ps2 disc, you'll see alot of .bin .gz .elf and other files that are normaly associated with linux. this is especialy true with demo disc. when you've played enough games you begin to recognize which were built by M$ software and which where built with diffrent platforms.

Likely hood is that it would ahve to be broken down from a ps2 disc anyway... since that POL would seem easier to adapt.

Well, things like .gz are fairly OS independant; they're just a preference of Linux developers. Assuming that those .elf files are really the same format used by Linux, emulation is still necessairy, unless your computer is actually running on a MIPS CPU (In which case, you still need a lot of emulation, as the games expect PS2 hardware, and not PC).

That makes sense twilight, But the thing about ffxi is that its made to run on PC as well. So pretty much what I'm thinking is mashing them together. Pol and FFXI are like oses in a way, the file structur for both is pretty much the same once you get past the boot. the way you put it actualy... I think I might find a way to run the elf file then go on from there. I'll try that for now ... and hopefuly i don't have to program anything...
